It's Friday!

Who knew that Friday would be my update day?  I love when I get some time to update.  My big news for the week is that I ordered books for my bookclubs!  The first book I ordered for January is called The Roar by Emma Clayton.  I haven't read it yet, but I had ordered it for the library based on recommendations.  So I'm very excited about that!

The first book club will be held sometime in January--that will give all the students the chance to read the book (especially with Christmas break thrown in there).

Other than that, it's pretty quiet in the library. hahaha oh funny me!  I hope everyone has a great weekend!

What's new?

Not much here.  Book club sign ups are still open.  Please if you're interested, let me know!  I have a big bunch this year and a good mixture of boys and girls and grade levels.  I'm very excited!

Sitting next to me is Beautiful Darkness that I told another teacher she can read.  I bought it last weekend and haven't even started it.  I won't lie...it calls to me with a sweet voice.  But no, I will buckle down and read another battle book.  My albatross.  Is that the saying?  Or is it a different bird?  I donno!

I'm a little sad I don't have any followers yet.  So parents and students follow me!  :)  I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend.  And I'm going to leave you with a link to the book trailer for Beautiful Darkness because I can't figure out how to post the video
On a side note:  how fun would it be to make our own book trailers?

Where has the time gone?

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!  I enjoyed my time off and am now in the mad rush for Christmas.  I feel like this craziness has followed me into the library and I've been a crazy harried librarian!  I finished The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg today and now am getting ready to start another Battle book.  I have three more left to read and am excited to be able to pick a random book to read.

In other news: FMMS book clubs are starting up again (after a bit of a hiatus this fall).  Sign ups are this week and then I'll get down to picking dates and figuring out books.  I am REALLY excited to see how this year goes.  Last year was all students who had done it the year before.  So this is a whole new crop of students--and I'm so excited to get some new blood.  And to have new books to read!

Book fair roundup

Well I wrapped up the book fair on Friday. Thank you everyone who came and purchased anything from the fair. I use the money to buy books for book clubs. Let me rewind. I have book clubs for middle school students. We meet once a month in the library during lunch and discuss a book. I buy the books for the students and they get to keep them after we have discussed them. It's a lot of fun and I always love to see kids discussing books. So the money from the book fair is used to buy books for these clubs. Occasionally I do ask students to buy books if we pick a book I can't get from scholastic. And kids are pretty happy to do so. It is a really fun activity and I can't wait to get this year going. Last year I picked a collection of books that came from scholastic and we would pick one of those each month and read it. I am leaning towards doing the same thing this year because then I don't have to worry about ordering every month and it buys me some more time to find new books. So again, thank you for helping make the book fair a success!

Tomorrow: a look at new books in the library from the book fair

A confession

I hate to write. I feel I am really really bad at it. And so I'm sort of wondering why I'm doing a blog--maybe I'll do some video ones. I'm much funnier in real life. I guess I will just practice writing. And it will make me better. Maybe I'll talk to Mrs. Everett about how to be a better writer. Tomorrow: a book review. For a book that I don't have in the library. It's mean but I just finished reading it so I have to talk about it. And I'm going to book review every book I've been reading because I've been reading a lot and I want to share it all with you!!!

The Hate List

Oh my gosh, I stayed up way to late a few nights ago finishing this book up. I was half way through before last night, then I just couldn't put it down. SOOOO good!

The Hate List is about a girl who has been bullied all through high school--called Sister Death because she wore black and "was obsessed with death." For years this went on, but she had friends that made her life bareable--she even had a boyfriend who she loved. The boyfriend also had been riduculed all through high school. You know the type: from the wrong side of the tracks, didn't wear the nicest clothes, and wasn't always clean. And he understood how hard it was to be picked on. And one day while they were comiserating about how mean some people were, they started a hate list. A list of all the people who had done them wrong and how much they hated them. The bf ends up going on a shooting rampage and leaving his gf to grieve over the loss of him and really, her old life.

The story is told from different time periods: before the shooting, during the shooting, and after..but in different orders. Sometimes she goes back in time and sometimes forward. I won't lie--you have to be paying attention because the author puts flashbacks in without much of a warning. But they help give background with the relationship.

I am debating about if this will go in our library or not--there is the f word in there, and it's a pretty heavy subject. So that is to be determined.

Let's get this party started!

I've been poking around for a few years now thinking about blogging or getting a website going--so this is how we're going to get it going!

So welcome! I guess I'll be posting about what I'm reading. Or what you want to be reading. Or what's going on in the library. Or something that someone does that makes me laugh.
